Zurich, 16 January 2020 – At Westhive, the provider of flexible workspaces and offices, all signs point to growth. In 2019, turnover and capacity increased strongly – while occupancy remained high. As a result, several new openings are planned for the next 12 months. The first will be a new location in the heart of Zurich’s city centre: the site at the corner of Bleicherweg and Stockerstrasse will offer around 90 workstations – and is already fully booked, with the exception of a few spaces, for the opening in March 2020.
«The demand for flexible office solutions is exceeding all our expectations,» says Claus Bornholt, one of the three founders of Westhive. «Coworking is definitely no longer just for start-ups. Many of our customers are established companies looking for more flexibility.» And it is not only smaller companies that benefit from the advantages of flexible office solutions. «Many medium and large companies in Switzerland are not very centrally located,» explains Bornholt, «they benefit immensely from an additional location in the Swiss metropolitan regions.»
The expansion into Zurich’s city centre is therefore a logical step. The almost 1000 square metre site is in a prime location, just a few steps from Zurich’s Paradeplatz on the corner of Bleicherweg and Stockerstrasse. «The new location in the centre of Zurich is an immensely important step for us,» says Claus Bornholt. «Small office spaces that can be rented flexibly are rare, especially in central city locations. We are going to change that.»
With a large proportion of the approximately 90 workstations already rented at the opening, Westhive plans to gradually increase its capacity. «Over the next few months, we will continue to expand our presence in the centre of Zurich and here on Bleicherweg. And in April we will open the Wollishofen location,» says Bornholt, «for which we have secured two well-known Swiss communications agencies as anchor tenants.»
Westhive AG opened its first coworking location at Hardturmstrasse 161 in April 2018. Together with the other locations at the Hürlimann site in Zurich, on Seestrasse in Wollishofen and on Bleichweg, around 650 workstations with a full service infrastructure will be available from spring 2020. Other locations are in preparation. Prominent Westhive members include the strategic partner Swiss Startup Group, the Valora Digital Innovation Lab, the AMAG Group’s Innovation & Ventures Lab, the LafargeHolcim startup MAQER and over 25 different startups from a wide range of industries.
